Beat the Summer Heat With These Tips

For most of us, summer is a fun time. It’s all about dipping in the pool, BBQs, and going out with our friends and family. While this is all fun, the Arizona heat can be absolutely brutal! That’s why I want to share these tips to help you beat the heat, and hopefully the electrical bill!

  1. Change your light bulbs

  • Did you know that incandescent bulbs produce a lot of heat? Yes, it does! In Australia, these bulbs have already been phased out for years, but some of us still use them. Try to switch to energy-saving bulbs! They use 75% less energy than the traditional incandescent bulbs. Moreover, they can last up to 10 times longer while saving production and disposal costs. The best energy-saving bulbs are LED bulbs.

  1. Choose breathable fabrics

  • Kinds of cotton are breathable fabrics that keep your body cool. Wear loose and light-colored clothing to allow more breathability, this applies to bedding too! Linen fabrics are also great for beating the heat as it absorbs sweat and dries quickly.

  1. Fire up the grill!

  • Cooking indoors is one way to increase the heat in your home, opt for cooking outside instead. Save some time and cook for the next day!

  1. Keep blinds and curtains closed during the day

  • Stop the heat getting into your house by covering your windows! Keep those blinds closed, and try blackout curtains! This is a great and cost-effective

way to reduce the heat in your home.

  1. Incorporate house plants

  • House plants are not only nice to look at, they are a natural way to cool your home. Place your plants in front of sunny windows for shade! Bonus- potting soil is a natural insulator!

  1. Change your filters

  • Changing your air filters regularly is a great way to save some green on your electric bill. When you change your filters on a schedule you can run your A/C four degrees lower without spending more- it’s worth the upkeep!
